As some of you may have read recently from Facebook, Devin Tamargo, a 34 year-old central Florida husband and father is battling for his life against very aggressive covid pneumonia.
His wife Lauren also came down with covid, and is at home with mild symptoms, while taking care of their 4 year old and 2 month old sons, Logan and Dylan.
Devin has been rapidly declining since entering the hospital last Friday, August 13th. He entered he hospital with low oxygen saturation, which was quickly followed by a collapsed lung, which required a chest tube. Within 2 days he was put on a ventilator at 100% oxygen. Today he went into severe respiratory distress, and had to be revived. Since entering ICU he has been completely alone, as no visitors are allowed in. The nurses have held the phone up to his ear so that hopefully he can hear his wife and son talk to him and tell him how much they love and need him, and how many people are praying for him to make it home to them.
Earlier this evening they told his wife that his prognosis was not good, and suggested the family try to call around to local hospitals to find an ECMO bed available for him, because that would be his best hope for recovery. It was a difficult feat, because when calling hospitals they only want to speak with his doctor or case manager, but Devin got extremely lucky when a friend of a friend contacted a surgeon who was willing to put together a team from Orlando to go to Devin in Altamonte and put him on ECMO tonight. The surgeon was able to succesfully put him on the ECMO and he is now being transferred, via helicopter, to Tampa where they have a COVID-19 unit that is best equipped to treat him. This is his best possible hope, and we are praying this treatment will bring him home to his wife and sons. He still has a long road to recovery, but this step is giving us hope that he will be back to teaching Logan golf swings, barbecuing in the backyard, and spending his time with Lauren watching their sons play and grow.
We can’t even begin to imagine what Lauren is going through, but hope during this insanely difficult time, that we can at least take some of the financial burden off their shoulders and allow her to focus on getting her husband back to health, and taking care of her two young sons. As of right now we are estimating hospital/treatment costs to be around $200,000. Again, he has a long road ahead of him to recovery and he will not be able to support his family while in recovery. ANY donation is appreciated, and will go straight to medical bills and caring directly for the Tamargo family.
We will continue to provide updates! We ask for continued prayers and positive vibes be sent their way. It truly has been amazing to see our community pull together for our dear friends, and we are forever grateful for all of the help and support.
