Devin Kelley's Memorial

Donation protected
Devin Kelley, my brother’s only son, lost his fight to depression at age 16 on January 11, 2022. Devin is survived by his father Jon, mother Dora, and sister Isabella. He is also survived by his three loving grandparents and many aunts and uncles (including myself). I am writing this to ask you for your support.

One of my fondest memories of Devin was in Lake Tahoe when he was about eight years old. I took him swimming in the lake, and in an act to protect us, he gripped my arm and pulled me to shore because he saw a megalodon (a giant shark). He was a caring, charismatic young man who loved his family and friends deeply. His dad was his hero, and he admired his mother and sister dearly. When Devin was younger, I brought him my collection of X-men action figures. I chose to play with the female characters which prompted his inquisitiveness—“why are you always choosing the girl ones?” I responded “because those are the most powerful characters in the universe.” He nodded in agreement. “Oh yeah, all the women around me are the coolest and strongest!” As he grew older, though he lived with the grueling burden of depression and bullying, I never saw him lose that twinkle of boyish, sweet innocence in his eyes that I loved.

We know in our hearts that he is now at peace and spending his eternity with his late grandpa Tim. When my dad passed we shared his favorite quote from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet --“When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.” With this sentiment, though Devin is no longer physically with us, may we forever remember that glimmer in his sweet eyes whenever we look up at the starry night sky.

I am not one to usually ask for support, but I am doing this to support my family and to raise awareness about mental health. My sister-in-law lost her job during the pandemic and has been a stay-at-home mom since to help Devin with his mental illness. My brother and his wife need this support to help with memorial-related expenses as well as any living-related expenses as my family grieves. Any support you can provide would be helpful during these difficult days ahead. If you would like to Venmo me, please do so @Terence-Kelley-1.
