In loving memory of Devin Gates (1990-2024)
We created this fundraiser to help Devin and his family. The Gates' family has been a beloved member of the Lakeridge High School and Lake Oswego communities for decades.
Devin was originally diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2010 and went through treatment until 2014. He endured outpatient chemo, at least 20 spinal taps and 10 bone marrow biopsies.
Then, in April of 2023, Devin thought he was dealing with a bad flu. Thankfully, his primary care doctor took a blood sample and called the next day, saying that he needed to immediately go to the ER.
At the beginning of May 2023, Devin was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and immediately started treatment. He went through 24/7 IV chemotherapy treatment, along with multiple blood transfusions and platelet transfusions. He also received IV antifungal, antivirals, and antibiotics daily.
Unfortunately, the first round of induction did not work and there is still a high amount of leukemia. He began another round of intensive chemotherapy on 6/2/23. He will be in the hospital for at least another month. Devin's family and friends are praying this second round works. If it does, he will then need stem cell transplants to cure his AML.
During this time, Devin has had to stop working and has lost his income. He has been told that he won’t be able to work for at least a year. His sister Jessi and brother-in-law Julien (along with their baby girl) will be taking care of him.
On May 27, 2008, Devin and Jessi's mom Patti Gates passed away after a five-year battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Devin was 16.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Gregory Gates passed away from heart and kidney failure. Devin was 28.
After losing both parents, and now her brother, Jessi needs her community now more than ever. There are many bills, necessities, food, and much more that the family needs to take care of themselves during this difficult time.
