Deven drives out Leukemia (T-ALL )
Donation protected
My cousin Deven Damron is 25 and has been diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL). He went from not wanting to miss work for a biopsy, to face the fact that we won’t be working for several years. He went to the doctor for what he though was a hernia. He had been lifting heavy loads at work. He scheduled an appointment with his PCP and waited for his appointment. When his appointment day finally arrived his doctor looked at the mass and told him he needed to go to the ER. That was on a friday. Deven proceeded to the local emergency room. That attending physician gave him a referral to a surgeon. He had an appointment that Monday and the surgeon said he thought it was lymphoma, that he wanted to do a biopsy. Deven was trying to put it off till he had a day off from work, but the surgeon wanted to do it the next day. He had the surgery and the biopsy. It came back as T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He then was scheduled to see an oncologist at The James in Columbus, Ohio and was subsequently admitted for induction, his first hospitalized round of chemo. From his first PCP appointment to admissions was three weeks.
Deven was lucky enough to be included in a clinical trial at The James that Is providing successful, CALGB 10403.
Deven will not be able to go back to work for some time, approximately 2-3 years as he receives treatment for and recoups from the chemotherapy while rebuilding his immune system. He lives over an hour and a half from his treatment center and will have to travel to and from for treatment after he is released. Deven’s mom , Angie is doing an outstanding job taking care of him. She drives him to and from appointments and stays with him during treatments. It is a financial strain on both of them, As she must also miss work as well.
Please keep this this family in your prayers and donate to help us take care of this family’s while they take care of Deven and do whatever they can to get him healthy, and keep him comfortable.
