Agri-Tourism Biz 1889 LandRun Legacy Iconium Farms
Donation protected
Iconium Farms, owned and operated by C Derrick Jones III, aims to create agricultural tourism resorts in glamping style, sustainable farms that sell products, and event venues. The company's goal is to raise $52,000 for developing the land to achieve its mission, which is symbolic of Jones' age, 52. Jones plans to document the process through a YouTube channel. Jones is a horticultural enthusiast, businessman, and professional choreographer, dancer, aerialist, art educator, rigger, and producer. He plans to use his skills to develop the land that has been in his family since the Land Run of 1889, where he aims to create a sustainable organic farm, resort, and performing art venue.
The plan for Iconium Farms involves creating a destination for conservationist-minded people who want to experience agro-tourism, relax, visit a farm with animals, eat farm-to-table food, and camp in various accommodation options. Jones intends to develop a venue for performances, weddings, and celebrations of all kinds. As the success of the farm and resort grows, Jones plans to create a campus of tiny homes and a large space for educational events, lectures, and a small museum highlighting his family's rich history in civil rights and arts.
Jones' family legacy includes a range of historical events, including the creation of Black History Month by his cousin Carter G Woodson (visit link), and contributions to the Harlem Renaissance by his Great Uncle Aaron Douglas (visit link), who was a prominent painter and intellect. Jones' Great-Great-Grandfather, Nathaniel Sawyer, was a founding member of the NAACP in Topeka, KS in 1913. His ancestors on both his father's and his mother's sides come from Native American bloodlines via the Powhattan (Pocahontas’s Tribe) and Creek. Jones believes that his whole life has led him to create a legacy for his family to visit and share with the world as educators, civil rights activists, doctors, pharmacists, artists, and performers.
