This fundraiser has been created for Christine Skoreyko who tragically passed at the age of 55 from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).

Christine brought light and warmth into every room she walked into. An incredible mom , sister , and friend.

In the fall of 2025 she began to have symptoms that were easy to explain away-vision changes, feeling overwhelmed, and anxiety. She was still herself , laughing , communicating with family members , and going for her daily neighbourhood walk.

Things began to progress at a rapid rate. Eye appointments , emergency room visits , endless tests, and eventually hospitalization. Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) was diagnosed on January 13th . At 5:44pm on January 15th, Christine took her final breath surrounded by family at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

CJD is a disease that moves faster than answers. It often begins quietly and then accelerates with shocking speed. By the time it is recognized, the damage is already extensive. There is currently no cure, and limited options once symptoms appear.

Losing Christine this way has been an unimaginably painful experience, not only from her absence but how sudden and agressive the disease took over. Many friends and family did not have the chance to say their final goodbyes. She deserved more and so does our family.

In her memory , we are raising funds to directly support the University of Alberta research team and their quest to solve CJD.

All donations will be collected and donated in one restricted gift. We are collecting donations centrally in order to track our progress as well as ensure that the full amount reaches the lab directly.
