Hurricane Michael has brought such devastation to so many, four of whom I hold so near and dear to my heart. My mom, sister, niece, and nephew are safe, thank God, but are facing so much fear and uncertainty with personal and professional property loss. My mom, Judy McCormick, is a wonderful mother, Gigi, friend, and 1st grade teacher of over 20 years. She was able to evacuate to family in Pensacola with my niece, Aleena (4), and nephew Keagan (2), while my sister, Angie Smith, remained selflessly behind to care for patients at Gulf Coast Medical Center. While Angie has not been able to return to her home, she walked to my mom's top floor apartment to find it without a roof and blown out windows. My mom plans to return as soon as it is safe to salvage what she can, fearful for the loss of irreplaceable memories. Both Angie's hospital and my mom's school will not be functional for likely months to come. I have never utilized GoFundMe, but feel that there will be great financial need to get through this time and back on their feet. I feel hopeless 4,000 miles away and am hopeful to support them through the generosity of friends near and far, even the smallest amount could make such a difference, and most importantly, please continue to pray for all of those affected, mahalo!
