Just as fire season ended, your worst nightmare happens. You get a call from your Mom saying the house burned down.
I spend half the year each year glued to CalFire updates, never fearing that the house itself would spark up from the primary heat source, the wood stove. They lost everything quicker than you could blink. It really got me when I saw this one, the same spice rack that was on the wall when we were kids.
Luckily, Mom was out of the house when it happened. Her phone was dead and she had to come home to the sirens and the fire trucks and the road blocked. Barry is at the UC Davis Burn Center for what will hopefully be no worse than second degree burns. The cat had to be buried yesterday. Getting power running back to the property is the most immediate challenge. That and replacing clothing, cooking items, basic necessities. Fort Jones, CA is a very small community, but it also proving to be very supporting and immediate shelter has been granted, but this could be a very long ordeal and something more permanent is needed.
Gift cards are also helpful, just reach out to me if financial donations aren't the best. We are grateful for anything that can be offered. Thank you.
