Hello, my name is Brenda Robert, daughter of Reg and Sadie Harder.
Reg and Sadie recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They had been enjoying their retirement at the lake. That celebration was short lived because on December 26, 2025 their beautiful home went up in flames. They thankfully managed to get out of the house in time with just the clothes on their back. Their home and all their belongings were taken away from them in a very traumatic way.
Reg and Sadie had been working hard on their home. They recently built an addition. After the addition was built, the home inspections were completed and they tried to get home insurance, however, due to wildfires in the proximity of their home, they were unable to insure the home. The insurance company told them they had to wait until they knew the muskeg was no longer smoldering underground before they could insure it. They were scheduled to insure it in January of 2026.
This is not the first time my parents lose everything. In 1999 they lost their business which my dad had built on his own from age 17. My dad worked so hard to rebuild; and eventually moved to High River Alberta to make a living. In 2013, they again lost it all in a flash flood. My dad couldn't get home to my mom in time and she was stranded alone for 2 days until she could be rescued by boat. They moved back to Manitoba to rebuild again. They did not ask for help when these things happened to them the first two times. This time it's different, they are retired and need the help from their family, friends and the community at large. We hope to be able to raise enough funds to get them a small apartment while we can rebuild the home that they worked so hard to get.
My parents will be staying in my spare bedroom in my basement for now, until we can find and furnish them an apartment. We have no where to store many items until we have a more permanent home in place. We are grateful for any financial donation that you are able to contribute. I understand if that is not possible, please share their story and this post with as many people as possible.
My parents are the most caring people. They have helped so many people over the years. Now its time they get the help and support they desperately need and would never ask for themselves.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Brenda
