We are starting this page for our Channel Ln neighbors, the Fendersons.
At around 1:30AM on Monday, July 29th, we heard a loud popping noise and went to our kitchen window and were shocked to see our next door neighbor’s garage ignite in flames.
In less than 10 minutes the fire spread from the garage to a nearby SUV, and then over to the house. Thanks to swift response from several first responder teams, the blaze was eventually contained, but not before tragically destroying 2 structures and 2 vehicles. While the frame of the house is still standing, most of their personal belongings inside have been lost. The only saving grace of the night was that Damian, Nichol, and their 2 dogs Dozer and Miss Mia were able to evacuate before the flames reached the house.
Sadly, they now find themselves unhoused and living in a borrowed tent with their puppers, trying to navigate this new and devastating reality. Even simple daily tasks such as personal grooming or meal preparation have now become onerous.
The money from this fundraiser will first help them tackle their immediate needs (food, clothing, etc), and then will go toward their permanent housing transition. Damian and Nichol were renters, so even if the homeowner decides to use insurance to eventually rebuild, they’re still left “without a paddle” in the short term. When they do have a long-term solution in place, they’re going to need basic things like furniture, linens, kitchen items, etc.
Many people have asked how they can help, so we started this page. This is an opportunity for our community to come together and support Damian and Nichol in their time of need, to show them they’re not alone. If you are not in a position to donate, please consider sharing. Every bit will make a difference in helping them rebuild and move forward.
