After a lifetime of caring for others, Deva has a dream. For decades, Deva has quietly shown up for people in need. Her life has been a long thread of service, compassion, and community care. Earlier in her life, Deva worked as a physical education teacher for students in grades 4–12, but she was much more than a teacher. She was a dorm mother, a mentor, and often the listening ear that helped young people feel safe, heard, and valued. Later she became a doula, supporting women through important life transitions. She helped nourish community by cooking for women’s circles and played a role in starting programs such as Roots and Branches, which encourages community engagement, and Wendell’s Needs and Wants, which helps neighbors during difficult times. For the past twenty years, Deva has worked in direct care with people living with chronic illness, mental health challenges, and those recovering from surgeries. She has been not just a caregiver, but a compassionate companion to many walking through vulnerable times. Now, at 78 years old, Deva is hoping to take a courageous step into a new chapter. Her dream is to take two years away from caregiving work so she can focus on her creative life and build a small online shop to sell the handmade pieces she creates — clocks, jewelry crafted from vintage silverware, collage artwork, and reversible fabric hats. To make this transition possible, Deva needs support to help cover basic living expenses for two years and give her the breathing room to grow her creative work into a modest source of income. After a lifetime of giving, this is a chance for the community that knows and loves Deva to give something back — the gift of time, creativity, and a new beginning. Any contribution, large or small, will help make this dream possible. Perhaps this is the moment when the circle closes in love, and the one who has given so much is finally held by the community she has helped nourish.
