Detroit Teacher and Family Need Help
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Christopher Young I have been an educator for 22 years. Both my wife and myself are teachers for Detroit Public Schools. We've faced quite many obstacles since the start of the school year. My car was stolen right off of the school parking lot - so that was gone. We had to somehow find a vehicle to get me to work. After that, I began to get symptoms for what I thought was a chest infection - I ended up in the hospital for 13 days and had two surgeries. I currently have a chest tube coming out of my body attached to a drainage bag, hoping to get the rest of the fluid out of my lungs caused by an extreme case of pneumonia. I do not qualify for FMLA as this is my first year with the Detroit School District - you have to be employed for at least one year. My wife has 20 sick days she wants the district to give me, but in their view, this was not a "catastrophic" event that would qualify me to accept another's donated sick day. My doctor has advised that I need to be off for 6 to 8 weeks to properly heal. Our family will not have my income during this time and we really need help to pay our house payment and take care of our two children. Please consider donating to help my family during this unfortunate situation.
