A Servant Leader Needs Your Help!!!
Diana Etheridge, affectionately known as “Lady Di”, is a fine example of a virtuous woman who is drawn to doing the will of God. She is a woman of great strength, integrity and a woman of true virtue with great faith. She is a loving wife, mother and grandmother! She dedicates her life to serving God and building His kingdom as well as helping others. Dedicated, determined and committed to serving God; Diana serves in several ministries. Her greatest love outside of serving people is her love of singing! She serves as the praise and worship leader of Shekinah Glory Community Church of Duncanville, TX, where her husband Bishop R.L. Etheridge II is the Pastor and she is the First Lady.
Lady Di is also an exceptional manager and facilitator within her profession and community. For more than 16 years, she has labored for the Texas Child Protective Services. In her role, she has responsibility for investigating reports of abuse and neglect of children; providing services to children and families in their own homes; placing children in foster care; providing services to help youth in foster care make the transition to adulthood and placing children in adoptive homes.
Unfortunately, our dear family member and friend, Diana Etheridge has suffered a respiratory illness since early 2011. After consulting with several physicians and receiving multiple diagnoses, she continued to endure harsh coughing daily. She is an advocate of healthy lifestyle living and a non-smoker, however in September 2014, her doctor performed a biopsy and the results determined that her lungs were failing to adequately perform. She ultimately was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, which is a scarring of the lungs due to chronic inflammation.
On February 6, 2015 Lady Di was hospitalized and eventually placed on a ventilator due to the rapid deteriation of both lungs. By February 24, 2015 she was placed on a regional and national organ recipient donor list to receive a double lung transplant. As a result of prayer, on March 3, 2015, Diana was blessed with an organ donor who provided two lungs and a surgical team performed a double lung transplant in Dallas. Although the prognosis at this point are positive, she has a long recovery and financial burden to endure.
Lady Di is yet dedicated to serving others, now she needs each of us to help her through this transformational period in her life! The National Foundation for Transplants reports that the cost for transplants varies for each patient, based on insurance coverage. Patients will also incur lifetime medical expenses for follow-up care and prescriptions. The average cost for a Double-Lung transplant is $800,000 (www.transplants.org). The time to full recovery after a lung transplant varies widely between people. Some people may leave the hospital within a week. However, it’s not unusual to be in the hospital for two weeks or longer after lung transplant surgery. The weeks after lung transplant are busy, filled with activities intended to ensure long-term success.
After careful evaluation of Lady Di’s health plan, it is determined that only 50% of the total cost may be covered. It is also likely that her lifetime medical expenses for follow-up care and prescriptions costs shall be greater than expected.
Family and friends have established a goal of $800,000 to cover a portion of the cost. We hope that you find it in your heart to donate towards the medical expenses and care for Lady Di. We also hope that you encourage others to give to this site as it will help a servant leader continue to serve others spiritually, professionally and emotionally.
