Destiny Jackson is a beautiful, intelligent and humble 13 yr. old young lady that loves God. Destiny's parents; Paul, (step) Dad to Destiny, and I use the word step lightly, is a chaplain's assistant in the Army. I use that word lightly because to see Paul with Destiny, you wouldn't know he wasn't her biological dad. Her Mom, Teresa, my bestie, my lil sis for 18 years, works at the local youth center where Destiny and her 8 yr old brother PJ go after school. Destiny comes from a typically close military family where the oldest son, Demetrius, 18 followed in his Dad's footsteps and joined the military.
Some of the activities Destiny enjoys are reading, cheerleading, cooking, baking, sewing, running track and 5Ks, singing in the family church choir and participating in any church activity. Like any and all Teens, Destiny also loves to be on the computer, the tablet and her phone.
Imagine the upheaval that followed when Destiny went to a doctor's appointment for loss of appetite and weight, only to find out that she was in acute kidney failure. Destiny had to be rushed by ambulance to Walter Reed 45 min to an hour away from home where she has been ever since. Destiny has been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune multi-system disease named Wegener's Granulomatosis. By the time Destiny got to Walter Reed hospital, 11%of her body was fluid . She immediately went into surgery to get a shunt for dialysis. She's now in PICU on oxygen 24hrs a day and she receives dialysis everyday, she's had 2 blood transfusions, 2 plasmapheresis treatments and has no date for going home yet. Mom and Dad has been by Destiny's side day and night. Mom hasn't been to work, Dad works and drives the 45 min after work. When Dad relieves Mom, Mom drives the 45 min and picks up Pj from a friend's house where he has been staying . That's alot right? Well that's not all. The medication Destiny needs to keep the disease from doing further damage to her kidneys or anything else for that matter, is most likely going to sterilize her. Can you imagine? Sterilized at 13? She won't ever be able to have her own child. She won't be able to be a phenomenal mother like the one that's raising her! That's where the money comes in. Military insurance will cover some costs but not all costs. Destiny can have some of her eggs frozen to give her a chance later on in life to be a mom. The procedure costs $4000.00. There will also be copays for her hospital stay and her expensive treatments. Not to mention any medical equipment she may need when discharged. With Mom not working right now, they are going to take a big hit! The has alone for to be killing them! Any help, any donation you can give will be appreciated. If we can get 4000 people to give one dollar, that will at least pay for her procedure. Maybe another 2000 people will help with copays, travel expenses, meals and just maybe a hotel room for the parents. This is the nicest family ever. They do everything together! This is no different, they plan on getting through this together too. They just need a little help. Please share this to everyone and encourage them to forward. Time is of the essence, She's receiving the meds in small doses now. So can you guys help? Would you please help save Destiny's child?
