Desperate needs for Travis Elementary
Donation protected
Travis Elementary serves over 615 elementary students in grades K-5 in San Marcos, Texas. This school is predominantly Hispanic and under-served, with 84% of the students meeting or falling below the poverty level, with many living in severe poverty or homeless. These students frequently lack basic hygiene necessities such as underwear, socks, laundry detergent or body wipes for those without running water. These are commonly overlooked items when individuals or organizations donate to local charity groups or food pantries. Lack of basic hygiene needs leads to frequent visits to the school nurse for rashes, irritation and sometimes infections causing missed instruction time, embarrassment, and sometimes compounding problems with the need for medical care. The staff at Travis Elementary has gone above and beyond to meet this school's needs. Staff and the nurse have attempted to provide for these needs. They have even done fundraising to install a shower for children without water to bathe. Despite all their heroic efforts to provide these basic needs to the children, they can no longer meet the high demand for basic hygiene needs for this deserving population.
The Social Work students at Texas State University have decided to do a fundraiser to help this well-deserved school and staff provide these basic needs. Please consider donating and sharing with others to show these kids how much they matter!
