Hi, my name is Mary and I am hoping to raise funds to purchase a used vehicle in order to continue working. My car died on me, and without it, I am unable to work since I am a delivery driver. Unfortunately, working at a job where I have to stand for any length of time is not a possibility for me. I developed a terrible infection in my leg from a Brown Recluse spider bite just after hurricane Irma while I was living in the British Virgin Islands. The possibility of amputation was always hanging over my head. I had to move back to the US to take better care of my health. Sadly, the pandemic hit just a month or so after I arrived. I am happy to say the infection finally cleared, but the residual effects will always be with me. I worked in restaurants for many years, but I can no longer stand or walk around for more than about 15 minutes before my leg gives out and I fall.

Delivery driving was a godsend, but a blown head gasket on a 14-year-old car is something three different mechanics said was not worth the money (approximately $4,000) to fix. In the last few months I have paid out over $2,000 for mechanical fixes on the car, thanks to the help of friends. I really thought the car was in great shape, but with over 160,000 miles, a blown head gasket was the straw that broke the camel’s back. My bank account is officially empty. I am quite desperate at the moment with no income. I hate having to do this fundraiser, but I am at the end of my rope. Rent and bills are due in just a matter of weeks. I am truly at my wits’ end.
