A little background on them.

3 years ago my son in-law was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer along with small cell endocrine carcinoma. He was given a 1 year life expectancy but with God's grace he has persevered to this point after 6 rounds of Chemo and monthly Lupron injections. He is on LTD but after 2 years the medical coverage portion has expired and he is no longer covered for his prescriptions or treatments. He has recently started a new round of Chemo since there has been some new progression in his cancer.

Lupron injection are roughly $3000 each

Chemo meds are $800 per round he has 3 more rounds to go.

He also has other daily meds

My daughter was employed for 10 years with the same company and that company was recently sold eliminating her position with them. She was given a small severance with limited medical coverage. She has since been looking for work but has not been successful due to her own medical issues. She is a type 2 diabetic and was recently diagnosed with several enlarged lymph nodes after having a cancer positive tumor removed from her pelvis in January. The treatment going forward at this time is unknown as there needs to be further testing and consultations for this.

Monthly Diabetic and other meds $800

They have a 14 year old son who has Skelatal Dysplasia and ADHD and mild autism. He is on daily medication that without coverage is $600 a month.

It has been a trying year for them. They have reached out to Family Pharmacare but due to last year's income it will cost them 15k out of pocket before any coverage kicks in. They have also reached out to Income assistance but because there combined income with EI and Disability they are above the income assistance threshold and do not qualify. As far as private insurance goes because they have existing conditions they would have to pay $1000 down and $575 per month for coverage that would only cover $2800 a year for each of them and their meds exceed that in just one month.
