Journey to New Lungs for Desmond
Donation protected
My name is Amber, and my husband Desmond is the one in all the photos. He’s currently on the UNOS list, waiting for a double lung transplant. We’re staying in Wisconsin for his care, while our children are with family. As of now, he hasn’t received a transplant yet. This whole process has placed a heavy financial strain on us, and the truth is—I don’t know how or when things will change.
We won’t be home before school starts, which means childcare costs will rise, especially since our teenager won’t be available to help during the day anymore. I’m hoping to raise enough to help carry us through the next few months while we continue this long and uncertain road toward saving Desmond’s life.
Desmond was diagnosed with scleroderma in November 2020—an autoimmune disease that brings on a number of other complications. He has systemic sclerosis, and the condition that’s made a transplant necessary is interstitial lung disease. He’s been officially listed for two months and already had one potential match, but unfortunately, the lungs weren’t viable. So we continue to wait, with hope—and a lot of anxiety—for the next call.
Desmond is a dedicated husband and father of five, deeply loved by everyone who knows him. He looks forward to being on the other side of this difficult journey—and back home with his family.
