My name is Yakyshia and I am the mother of Desiree who is also a mother of four children, ages 2, 3, 12, and 14. On Saturday, November 15, 2025, Desi, as she is affectionately called was in a tragic motor vehicle accident and by the grace of God, she survived. Desi sustained severe/complex fractures, dislocations and vascular reconstruction of both lower extremities.
Prior to the accident, Desi was enrolled in college pursuing her Nursing degree and was the sole provider for her family, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Always self-sufficient and independent, Desi has never had to rely upon others to make ends meet. Because of her injuries, Desi has a long journey ahead of her for recovery which includes multiple orthopedic surgeries and rehabilitation to include learning how to walk again.
As her medical needs are extensive, upon discharge, she will have to move into a new home to facilitate rehab. Currently, Desi and her children's home is not handicap accessible. Additionally, as she is unable to work, life is still lif'n. Rent, utilities, daycare, groceries, and other necessities are now delinquent. Desi has applied for disability through her employer; however, that process is still in a pending status.
While still hospitalized, Desi desires as any mother does; unselfishly wanting her children to continued to be cared for. Your support/donations will allow her family to maintain her household, provide for her children, off-set the moving expenses, and to cover any unforeseen medical expenses.
We are a proud but humble family. We are a strong family united by our faith in God. There is a purpose and calling on Desi's life which is evident that God kept her. While the Jaws of Life were used to pull her from the wreckage, it was the Hands of God that kept her.
Thank you for allowing me to share Desi's story and rehab journey. Your support is truly appreciated.
Blessings.
