If you know Jason and Desiree, you know they rarely ask for help and are usually the first ones to jump in and help others. I'm asking that if you are able, and the Lord speaks to your heart, to pray for them and help support them during this difficult and stressful time with their medical expenses.
For those that don't know, Tuesday morning, March 21st, Desiree was scheduled for a "quick and easy" gallbladder removal. She was home by early afternoon, only to visit the ER by 9:30 PM due to intense pain.
She was transported by ambulance to Advent Health South hospital in Overland Park and admitted. After evaluation and tests, it was determined that she had a bile leak due to the gallbladder surgery that was performed and they were somewhat confident they could repair it with a stint but they would need to transport her, again by ambulance, to the Advent Health hospital in Shawnee Mission because they did not have the equipment to do the procedure at the South location.
Unfortunately, they determined during the procedure that there was a blockage and the stint would not work. Friday evening they transported her, again by ambulance, to KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Saturday morning they took her to surgery to insert a drainage tube to rid her body of the bile.
She is scheduled for an additional surgery on Monday morning to repair the damage from her gallbladder surgery. They have indicated this should get her back on her feet with no residual effects and hopeful she will be able to be released on or about April 1 and she can begin her recovery from these surgeries.
Although they have insurance, they must meet their deductible and are still responsible for 20% of all medical bills after that. This is a hard hit for anyone who has experienced a medical emergency and especially considering almost a two week stay in the hospital and three ambulance transports!
Jason has been by her side for the last week through it all and unfortunately, does not have vacation time. He is going back to work on Tuesday and their family are taking turns staying with her in his absence during the day.
In addition to the stress of this medical situation, they were due to close on the sale of their home this week as well as the purchase of their new home and are supposed to move on April 1st. They are very thankful for family and friends who have helped with packing and with caring for their two boys, Lachlan and Daxton, and will be helping with the move but the stress is overwhelming as this medical emergency was just that...an emergency and totally unexpected from an emotional and financial perspective.
Thank you for prayers and any support you can contribute.
