My name is Textli (teshlee) Gallegos and I am the Founder of DesdeCalifas. DesdeCalifas is a novel art collective & magazine that uplifts, preserves, and shares stories from artists with a connection to California. In response to centuries of oppression against BIPOC (Black and Indigenous People of Color), we want to create a platform through which artists of this community could use their gifts to efficiently communicate with our society, and harmoniously engage other artists. And we did that.
Our first issue was published in early August, and the next issue will be released in November. DesdeCalifas’ goal is to make the magazine affordable for all, so each one is priced at $10 to the general public. However, the cost of this affordability is lack of sufficient funds to craft the next issue. This is where community leaders, such as yourself, come in. A fearless, optimistic investment from you and other pillars of the community will directly fund the growth of our platform, and in turn, the growth of the BIPOC community’s soul. An investment of any amount is Gold for us, though we’re pleased to inform you, and our other supporters, that investing $30 in DesdeCalifas will be guaranteed a copy of our second issue, $40 will be a magazine and a patch, and $50 or more will be a magazine and two patches.
At DesdeCalifas, we dream of being able to pay our incredible hub of artists for the work they create for us, and with your investments and continued support as community leaders, we know it’s only a matter of time before we are capable of this.
Our successful first issue features 8 artists that showcase their talents within the theme of Family Relations. Every issue will have a different theme that relates to the BIPOC community. Follow our instagram to see our featured artists. You can find some of their work on our instagram @DesdeCalifas, or on their own pages:
