DeSanto Centre for the Deaf - Zambia
Tax deductible
Please join me in making a difference in the lives of Deaf children in Zambia.
Deaf people in Zambia are less likely to be considered full members of society because of their disability. There are currently about 250 Deaf people living in Livingstone, Zambia, but the exact numbers are unknown as the city does not keep records.
Many Deaf people are destined for a life of begging, extreme poverty, or human trafficking. Approximately 58% of the people in Livingstone, Zambia, live below the poverty line of $1.90 a day (Knoema). For Deaf people, it is unlikely that they will even make that.
DeSanto Centre for the Deaf has been in operation for 20+ years and has made tremendous advances in the educational opportunities for these Deaf children and their families. By teaching the children and the families, we have shown that the Deaf Can do anything a hearing person can except hear.
You can read more about the school by visiting its website or Facebook page.
At this time, the specific project we are trying to raise funds for is a sheltered workshop for older students who wish to learn trades like Carpentry, Electrical work, Plumbing, and Sewing. It will be a simple shelter with only a roof to protect the work area from the sun and rains during the rainy season. This project will allow these young adults to earn a living wage and show the community that they are capable and functioning members of society.
The estimated total cost of this shelter is approximately USD 7,000. The International Service Committee of The Rotary Club of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, has pledged a very generous donation of USD 3,000 for this specific project. We are trying to raise the balance needed to fund this shelter. This cost includes all materials and labor to construct it.
Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for contributing to this cause, which means so much to change these people's lives.
**As a special incentive, as soon as we reach the first $1,000 in donations, I will match it with $100 myself.
Donations are for a 501(c)(3) organization. Talk to your tax professional about claiming your contribution as a charitable gift.
We are raising money to benefit the students of DeSanto Centre for the Deaf, which operates as a not-for-profit under the umbrella organization of Kids of Kadiogne (EIN: 20-4783967).
Kids of Kadiogne supports the DeSanto Centre for the Deaf; 100% of the proceeds made through the gofundme will go to DeSanto Centre for the Deaf. However, your tax-deductible receipt will show the donation to Kids of Kadiogne.
