Desalegn Moges Birara is a 17-year-old student from Ethiopia, currently in 10th grade. He is a bright, hardworking young man with a strong passion for learning and a future full of potential. Sadly, Desalegn has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition that now threatens his life.

He was initially receiving treatment at Debre Tabor Hospital, but doctors there determined that his case required more advanced care. He was referred to Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa for emergency heart valve replacement surgery. Unfortunately, due to the hospital’s long waiting list of over 1,000 patients, he cannot receive timely care there.

Doctors have informed his family that without surgery, Desalegn may not survive more than a month.

Desalegn comes from a humble farming family who have already given everything they have to get him treatment. They are now left with no other option but to seek surgery at a private hospital, where care is available immediately—but the cost is overwhelming.

The estimated cost of the surgery and recovery is over 1 million Ethiopian birr (approximately $10,000 USD), an amount far beyond the family’s ability to pay.

This campaign is a call to all kind-hearted people—within Ethiopia and beyond—to help save Desalegn’s life. Your support can give him a second chance: to heal, to study, and to achieve the future he’s worked so hard for.
