Support Derry's New Way Forward
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart and humble gratitude that I reach out to Derry's community, our community, to share what has happened to him and to ask for help. Derry's life has been altered permanently and he is maintaining a phenomenal attitude about it, but he is in a very challenging position and needs the support of his people. Derry went into a surgery for his Achilles tendon on January 3rd of 2023 with the expectation of a quick recovery. Unfortunately, during the procedure he received a nerve block that destroyed the sciatic nerve bundle right below his left knee joint. The nerves in 2/3rds of his leg are completely dead with no hope of healing. For 4 months he was in so much pain he could sleep for an hour or less per day and his resting heart rate rested in the low 90's. Derry will never be able to work as an arborist or teach break dancing or play disc golf again. He has not been able to work or play or leave his apartment for more than a couple of hours at a time, since that day. He has several neurological disorders that there are no known cure for. Derry is pushing himself hard in physical therapy but there has been no improvement that could result in improving his mobility beyond basic and necessary mobility needs. Derry has been turned down for disability twice now but is persisting in obtaining some kind of assistance. He was tremendously reluctant to allow me to ask for help but he is in a very difficult financial situation. These donations will allow Derry to catch up on his mounting debt and give him the financial stability to pursue work he can do from home.
