My name is Annick Mitchell and today I am asking for your help.
Derrick Ogwayeka Sudi is a 16 years old young man who was the victim of a despicable hit and run accident whilst at school in Western Kenya on Sunday 29th September 2019.
He has been admitted into hospital with a fractured skull, blood on the brain, damaged jaw and possible broken bones. The true extend of the damage is still yet to be confirmed in full. We are told that there is only one neurosurgeon attached to the hospital and communication is very, very disjointed which is adding to the stress of the situation.
Derrick is the second born and much loved son of my employee Wycliffe. Wycliffe has been in my employment for 15 years and is a general all round outstanding man.
We have managed to raise some funds through a home made dog biscuit sale fundraising campaign within our local community and the National Hospital Insurance Fund will hopefully help cover the bed nights, but we are anticipating that Derrick will be in hospital for several weeks still!
Derrick will need invasive brain surgery!!
We are desperate to help Derrick’s family both financially and emotionally on what can only be a long and difficult road to recovery.
Derek is a great little guy….. polite, bright and with his whole future ahead of him. He has a great love for animals, especially dogs and one dog in particular, Zulu is his ultimate favourite.
Dereks accident is a huge tragedy and could happen to any one of us!! Derrick was crossing the road to buy sweets at the kiosk and was ploughed down, literally, by a speeding vehicle, which apparently made no attempt to slow or avoid Derrick.
As a brain surgery survivor I am appealing for your help. Please help us to help Derrick and his family through this traumatic and horrific experience.
Many, many thanks to Elodie Sampare who is helping with fundraising for Derrick through her french bank account. She is collecting the funds on Derrick's behalf and will be the one that gives all donations received to Derrick and his father Wycliffe so that they can settle the hospital bill as and when needed. And this....... The reason why I am pushing so hard to raise funds for Derrick....!! This was me 20 years ago!! Emergency brain surgery, 2 months in hospital and a year of recuperation .... all covered for free by the excellent yet non entirely flawless NHS!! I was so lucky to have access to free and excellent health care. Derrick and so many more around the world are not so fortunate!!!
Please consider donating.... Derrick and his family need all the financial help that they can get to cover the cost of this extremely risky operation and for whatever comes next!!!
