This is my friend Derrick Demoss Smitherman. He is truly a light in this world. Derrick gives his time to his Alma Matter, Chilton County High, as a volunteer through his talents. Derrick is passionate about helping others through music education. He has helped the Chilton County High School Band and has been an amazing vocal coach for Blast From the Bast. Derrick has given so much to the future, so now I am asking for you to help with his. Derrick underwent kidney transplant surgery a little over a year a go on March 29, 2024. He has made it one year post transplant. Unfortunately, during his year post transplant he was diagnosed with yet again, Osteomyelitis. The same disease that took his legs from him was found in his back, which caused his spinal cord to severe. He has undergone surgery and has had to spend extensive time in Atlanta enduring surgeries and rehabilitations. Derrick had big plans of being able to get back into the work force and continue to give back to the community. It is our turn to give back to him!
