Deron Tinsley Brain Tumor Removal Surgery

My dad and I were sitting on the porch the other day, talking about my three-month-old son. Since this is my dad’s first grandson, I asked if he has a favorite part of being William’s grandpa, and after a brief pause, he answered that he loves his name. My wife and I chose “William Deron” because my dad, Deron Tinsley, is the best man I know. He is extremely intelligent, earned two master’s degrees, and has an impressive career. He has traveled the world, learned languages, plays multiple instruments, and is extremely well-read. Despite all this, what I admire most about my dad is what he’s taught me about cultivating kindness and gentleness as a man. Our selfless dad has a wife, five children and their spouses, and three grandchildren who absolutely adore him because we have always been his greatest priority and joy.  2019 and 2020 have been physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially difficult for my parents. We lost a beloved aunt to ovarian cancer, and upon finding she had the same pre-cancerous genetic mutations, my mom underwent a total hysterectomy. Six months later, following thyroid removal, we learned she needed radiation therapy for remaining cancer. My brother received emergency surgery for a congenital cyst that closed off his airway. My sister was hospitalized due to a life-threatening illness. As she has continued to struggle with her health, my parents have lovingly cared for their two young granddaughters as needed. Shortly after the pandemic began, my dad’s job in the healthcare industry was furloughed, adding more financial strain to an already difficult year. Throughout all of this, we have noticed worsening memory loss, depression, and balance issues in Dad. Still, we were shocked and devastated last week when we learned he has a baseball-sized tumor buried deep in his brain. 2020 has been rough for a lot of people, but this was the icing on the cake that no one wanted in the first place.  Due to the size and location of the tumor, Dad has an emergency surgery scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (9/10). I’m sure you can imagine the uncertainty and fear that our family, especially our mom, is facing right now. We have a skilled neurosurgeon on board, but regardless, he is facing a long road to recovery. My siblings and I hope that through your generosity and love, our parents may be able to focus solely on our dad’s health. Along with the cost of the surgery, he will be unable to work for an extended period and may require additional treatments or a stay in a rehab center. We offer our sincerest gratitude to you for any amount you contribute towards his healing. Please share this GoFundMe with your own family and friends via social media. We will be posting updates on my dad’s condition here, but you’re welcome to reach out to me or my brother Josh via social media or GoFundMe with questions.
