Hi, my name is Lauren, I’m 17 years old and I’m fundraising for my dad, Dermot, who sadly passed away on 08/04/2026.
My dad had been battling a chronic illness called COPD, and he also suffered a cardiac arrest which led to a lack of oxygen to his brain. Despite everything he went through, he fought so hard every single day, showing incredible strength and determination. Sadly, we lost him at just 61 years old.
Even in his passing, my dad continued to think of others. He became an organ donor and was able to give life to another person — something that truly reflects the kind, selfless and remarkable man he was. That brings us comfort in such a painful time.
This has completely changed our lives. I’ve lost my dad at a time when my life is only just beginning. The moments he should be here for — my future achievements, milestones, and memories we were supposed to make — won’t be the same without him. That’s something I’m still trying to process each day.
Dermot was someone you could never forget once you met him. He had a presence about him — kind, driven, and always working towards something better for himself and his family. He had a great sense of humour, a strong work ethic, and a way of making people feel supported and cared for. More than anything, he made sure his family came first, always putting us before himself.
He was a loving husband to my mum and an amazing dad to me and my twin brother. He was our support system, our guidance, and our biggest supporter in everything we did. The loss we feel is something words can’t fully describe.
As a family, we are now trying to arrange the best possible farewell for him — one that truly reflects the life he lived and the love he gave. Unfortunately, the financial burden is very difficult for us at this time.
The funds raised will go towards funeral costs, including a funeral director, cremation fees, and giving him the memorial he truly deserves. We want to honour him in the way he deserves and give him a proper, meaningful goodbye. We have got the rough estimate on how much the funeral will be and it’s around 6,000 just for the funeral itself and then for us to own a plot for his memorial we are yet to get price on it.
Any donations, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. Your support will not only help us give my dad the send-off he deserves, but also help ease the pressure on my mum as she navigates this incredibly difficult time while supporting me and my brother.
If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this would mean so much to us and help us reach more people.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, and for any support you can give. It truly means more than we can express.
