Help Deric Goodwin Recover from a Serious Car Accident
Donation protected
On March 4th, 2024, 23-year-old Deric Goodwin was on his way to pick up his girlfriend after work, driving through downtown Portland. It was a nice day...until another driver swung in front of him to try and make a freeway exit. This third party driver continued on, but Deric did not have time to stop. After the collision, his car hit a road barrier and spun out. Seconds later a man driving a truck t-boned him on the drivers side. Deric ended up with a broken pelvis, crushed bladder, broken ribs, lacerations on his kidney, liver and lungs, and a broken hand. He spent several days in the ICU recovering from what could have easily been a fatal accident.
Deric is a Camas "kid" who attended Helen Baller Elementary, Liberty Middle School, Camas High School and graduated from Hayes Freedom High School in 2019. Prior to the accident, he was living in an apartment, working for LeafGuard, and training to be a longshoreman. Now, he is looking at a six to twelve month recovery journey, is living in Camas with his parents, and unable to work at this time. His car is a complete loss, as he had liability insurance only. And, since it was a hit and run, there is no money coming from the other insurance company. Deric has applied for disability and is currently waiting on approval or denial. He has a penalty payment due for leaving his apartment lease early, medical bills already over 1k, and the need to save for another car.
Please help us bless this young man with any help we can offer. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
