Derek Neikes

As many of you know, Derek was diagnosed with esophageal cancer earlier this month. After suffering from what felt like a reoccurring sore throat and noticing a lump on his neck, he went to see a doctor and had a biopsy.

Since those initial days, he has been seeing a team of doctors including an oncologist, ENT specialist and surgeon to determine the best course of treatment to rid the cancer from his body. Recently he will be underwent a minor surgery to have a port placed so he can begin receiving chemo treatment. The esophageal cancer has made it nearly impossible for him to eat regularly and as a result he has lost significant weight. Doctors have placed a feeding tube so he can get the nutrients he needs in order to keep his strength before and during chemo treatments.
