It is with broken hearts that we share the unexpected passing of Derek Watson, age 25, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Derek was a devoted father, son, brother and dedicated electrical apprentice who had his whole future ahead of him.

Derek worked at Premier South Electrical, a Union Contractor out of IBEW Local 1316. He was currently working on his second year of apprenticeship and was well on his way to becoming a Journeyman Electrician—a career he was deeply proud of and committed to.

He leaves behind his beloved 4-year-old son, Dakota Watson, who lovingly called him "DaDa." Derek was everything to Dakota—his world, his hero, his comfort—as Dakota was everything to his father. A bond like theirs can never be broken—even in death.

Derek is survived by his loving parents, Lucinda and Kevin Watson, his brother Dustin Watson, and the love of his life, Dakota's Mama, Ally Hartel, and multiple family members and friends who are devastated by the sudden loss. Kevin also works at Premier South Electrical, and the entire IBEW Local 1316 brotherhood has been shaken by this tragedy.

This fundraiser is being set up to help the Watson family cover funeral and memorial expenses. No one is ever prepared to lose someone so young, so suddenly. The emotional pain is unbearable, and the financial burden only adds to the weight of this unimaginable loss.
