Funeral expenses for Derek Sorenson

This GFM is to support Derek's family with funeral expenses but, more importantly, to give his daughter Emma some financial freedom while she is grieving.

Derek passed away unexpectendly and suddenly Saturday (July 16th) evening as the result of heart traum.

Derek leaves behind his daughter Emma, girlfriend DeLynn and Emma's mom and best friend Melissa, as well as brothers Sean, Kelsey and Lee. Derek had an extensive family and friends that outnumber the stars, all of whom are heartbroken.

We all know what an entertainer Derek was either on-air or at a live event, but his one true love was his daughter Emma. The day Emma was born, Derek became the amazing man and dad we all knew. Emma was his top priority; he would drive across the state in blizzards to see her, even for a short visit.

Derek was a professional for making people smile, laugh and have a good time. He LOVED being an on-air personality. Derek was voted Best On-Air Perosnality by My City Magazine for 2021 and 2022. Saying that music was his passion is like saying he liked U of M. He had regular callers at 103.9 the Fox, and his listeners loved making requests at lunch; he even took out-of-state requests and gave the best shout-outs. Many people listened not so much for the music but to hear Derek.

Derek LOVED trivia and had a massive following at BJ's, Timothy's Pub, Jesters and Blondies. He spent hours coming up with great questions, finding random one-hit wonder songs to stump contestants as a side game during the trivia.

It is not an exertion to say that Derek had thousands of friends; he touched so many with his smile, and he helped so many with his kindness. Derek's friendship will be missed the most.
