Derek Martin was in a dirt bike accident in Detroit where he was hit by a truck that turned into his path. Derek does not remember anything about the accident. The driver called 911 and soon after that he left the scene on foot. We praise the Lord for friends in Detroit who came up on the accident and kept him safe on the scene. We praise the Lord for medical staff who were able to save Derek's life. He broke all three long bones in his left leg and also his left thumb.

Derek had moved to Detroit in January 2020 to work with an inner-city mission. He was also working a full-time job. He really enjoyed the work he was involved in there. We have brought Derek back home to Indiana to recuperate. He has a long road of appointments, therapy and pain ahead of him. He will be out of work until he is well enough to do some type of work before returning to Detroit.

He has not received any bills yet, but we already know nothing will be covered by any of the insurance that he had. He was in the hospital from September 14 to September 20 and had two surgeries so we know the total will be more than the goal we have set, but this will get him started. We plan to talk to the hospital to get as many discounts as we can.

Derek admits that he is partially at fault for the accident, so this fundraiser has not been set up without that in mind. We simply want to help someone who is in need and without a job.
