Derek Jenson left this world on Wednesday, February 9th, after fighting hard for his life for over two months. He was the young age of 35 years old.
Since December, Derek had quietly been battling multiple pneumonia’s which led to various infections. A couple weeks before Christmas, Derek reluctantly went in and got admitted to the Sturgis VA for five days. After being released and spending a short time at home on oxygen, he was admitted again late Christmas evening where he was emergency life-flighted to the VA hospital in Minneapolis. He had been fighting there since, with the love and support from his family, who visited as often as they could.
Derek was a loving son, brother, & friend, but his most favorite title was, Uncle “Boomer”. He served his country, his family, his work places (RC Monument & Wild Idea Buffalo Co.) and was also studying to be a nurse to continue serving his community. A co-worker and friend at the hospital used him as an example in her classes because of his dedication to his work, care for his patients and love for his co-workers. She instructed everyone to "Be like Derek".
The Jenson family is trying to navigate through this extremely difficult & sad time. The expenses are overwhelming - any financial help you could offer would be very much appreciated.
With love & gratitude.
