Derek was a loving devoted father, husband, son, sibling, and friend.  With no previous health issues, Derek died of natural causes at his home on December 5, 2016, leaving behind his loving wife Emily and three beautiful daughters Audrey (7), Macy (5), and Bryce (2). Whether it be with his friends, family, or fellow employees, there was a common theme to their love and respect for Derek.  Sitting in on conversations reflecting on Derek you will consistently hear this: Derek is "that guy" - the guy you want to be your dad, your spouse, your brother, your friend. He's the guy everyone tried to emulate. I am 20 years Derek's senior and he was my model for all those roles.  The awareness of this common theme didn't just come about reflecting on Derek after his death, we have known and discussed it a long time. He is and will always be "that guy" for those fortunate enough to experience his soul.

Derek and Emily raised their family with boundless love and complete dedication to Jesus Christ. His devotion to God was not only shown by regular attendance at church but more so by his everyday actions. Derek illustrated his devotion by his constant effort to live life by Christ's teachings. Derek was a light for us all.

Derek and Emily's devotion to their children and Christ dictated all their decisions. Emily paused her career to stay home and raise the girls. Derek continued his career and was the primary source of income. While Derek and Emily carefully planned their family finances, this tragedy is one that no family can account for.

Derek's family did not request any fund raising but reluctantly agreed to provide a means for their friends to express their grief. At the family’s request, please do not share on social media but do feel free to email a link to this page to friends and others that want to express their sorrow.
