Your contributions to the Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute 2014 fundraiser,"Derby in the D", ensure the institute maintains the most innovative medical technology and continues to perform research and clinical trials aimed at preventing and treating neurological diseases and disorders.
Due largely to annual fundraising, Henry Ford Health System is one of only four hospitals in the state of Michigan to have electrode mapping technology used in Awake Craniotomies (brain surgery performed while the patient is awake). It maps electrodes from the brain to an MRI machine during surgery, pinpointing to the neurosurgeons exactly where they can and cannot operate.
For a little context on why this innovative medical technology is so important: after my brother's craniotomy, his neurosurgeon explained that without the electrode mapping technology, Todd's speech ability could have been permanently eliminated.
My generous employer will MATCH up to $6,000 that we raise prior to the "Derby in the D" event, May 3rd!
