Ich bin Melanie und gemeinsam mit Kays Firma Faurecia möchten wir diese Spendenaktion starten.

Unser Kollege, Freund und Kamerad Kay Hemmer ist gerade 55 Jahre alt, als ihn das Schicksal vor die Herausforderung seines Lebens stellt. Ein Hirninfarkt (Sinusvenenthrombose) hat sein Leben von Grund auf verändert.

Viele kennen ihn als starken Kerl, den so schnell nichts umhauen kann, doch das Schicksal hatte andere Pläne. Für eine OP am Kopf wurde Kay ins künstliche Koma versetzt, lag wochenlang auf der Intensivstation. Es folgten Monate im Wachkoma in der Frühreha.

Im April folgte dann das kleine Wunder: Nach einer weiteren OP im Klinikum Karlsruhe konnte er mir endlich wieder antworten und sich mitteilen. Fürsorge und sein starker Wille, haben ihn dazu gebracht, dass er nun in der Lage ist, Schritt für Schritt sein Leben zurück zu erobern.

Kay ist und war schon immer ein Kämpfer ! Nun kämpft er weiter ! Hinfallen und Aufstehen ! Weiter oder Stehenbleiben, aber niemals zurück ! Die Vision, wieder auf eigene Beinen zu stehen und loszulaufen, wieder nach Mexiko, China oder Tunesien zu fliegen, Tennis zu spielen oder einfach nur an der Kaffeemaschine zu stehen und Smalltalk mit Kollegen zu halten, gibt ihm Kraft, jeden Tag weiterzukämpfen. Es wird noch ein langer Weg vor ihm liegen. Er braucht nun Physiotherapie, die ihm hilft, die Muskeln zu kräftigen, um wieder auf die Beine zu kommen. Logopädie, die ihm hilft wieder zu schlucken und die Worte zu finden und Ergotherapie, die ihm hilft, ganz alltägliche Dinge wieder zu erlernen.

Kay sitzt im Rollstuhl, kann mittlerweile Kuchen, sein geliebtes Eis und Pasta genießen. Er kann sich mitteilen und nimmt aktiv an seiner Umgebung teil.

Jetzt soll der nächste Schritt folgen. Kay möchte nach Hause!

Zurück in seinem Haus, wird es ihm erneut Motivation geben, weiter voran zu kommen. Neben den Kosten für eine Hilfskraft, die 24h im Haus mitwohnen wird, werden auch rund ums Haus kostspielige Erneuerungen auf ihn zukommen.

Um auf Dauer die Kosten tragen zu können, benötigen wir eure Hilfe. Vorrangig angeschafft werden, muss ein Lift, der ihn in das Schlaf- und Badezimmer bringt. Hierfür muss ein Eigenanteil in Höhe von 25.000 EUR aufgebracht werden. Die Handwerkerkosten betragen noch zusätzlich etwa 6.000 EUR. Ein Badumbau und eine Rampe für den Rollstuhl vor der Haustür werden auch nochmal rund 10.000 EUR in Anspruch nehmen.

Kay braucht Eure Hilfe, um endlich nach über einem Jahr wieder heimzukehren. Jeder Beitrag – groß oder klein – bringt uns diesem Ziel ein Stück näher.

Wie viele von euch wissen, war u.a. auch Boxen eine große Leidenschaft von Kay. Diese Worte von Rocky Balboa haben ihn von Anfang an, bereits im Koma, begleitet:

„Die Welt besteht nicht nur aus Sonnenschein und Regenbogen, sie ist oft ein gemeiner und hässlicher Ort. Und egal wie stark du bist, sie wird dich in die Knie zwingen und zermalmen, wenn du es zulässt. Weder Du noch ich und auch sonst keiner kann so hart zuschlagen wie das Leben. Doch der Punkt ist nicht der, wie hart einer zuschlagen kann, es zählt nur, wie viele Schläge er einstecken kann und ob er trotzdem weiter macht. Einstecken und weitermachen. Nur so gewinnt man. Wenn du weißt, was du dir wert bist, dann geh und hole es dir. Such nicht die Schuld bei anderen ! Schwächlinge tun das. Und das bist du nicht ! Du bist BESSER !“

I'm Melanie and together with Kay's company Faurecia we would like to start this fundraising campaign.

Our colleague, friend and comrade Kay Hemmer has just become 55 years old and fate has presented him with the challenge of his life. A cerebral infarction (sinus vein thrombosis) has changed his life from the ground up.

Many people know him as a strong guy who can't be knocked down that easily, but fate had other plans. Kay was put into an artificial coma for an operation on his head and spent weeks in intensive care. This was followed by months in a persistent vegetative state in early rehabilitation.

Then, in April, came the small miracle: after another operation at Karlsruhe Hospital, he was finally able to answer me again and communicate. Care and his strong will have enabled him to reclaim his life step by step.

Kay is and has always been a fighter! Now he fights on! Fall down and get up! Keep going or stop, but never go back! The vision of standing on his own two feet again and running, flying to Mexico, China or Tunisia again, playing tennis or simply standing at the coffee machine and making small talk with colleagues gives him the strength to keep fighting every day. He still has a long way to go. He now needs physiotherapy to help him strengthen his muscles and get back on his feet. Speech therapy to help him swallow and find his words again and occupational therapy to help him relearn everyday things.

Kay is in a wheelchair and can now enjoy cake, his favourite ice cream and pasta. He can communicate and actively participate in his surroundings.

Now the next step is to follow. Kay wants to come back home!

Back home, it will give him renewed motivation to move forward. In addition to the costs for an assistant who will live in the house 24 hours a day, he will also have to make costly renovations around the house.

We are kindly asking for your help to be able to bear the costs in the long term. The first priority is to purchase a lift to take him upstairs to his bedroom and the bathroom. A personal contribution of EUR 25,000 must be raised for this. The tradesmen's costs amount to an additional EUR 6,000. A bathroom remodelling and a ramp for the wheelchair in front of the front door will also cost another EUR 10,000.

Kay needs your help to finally return home after more than a year. Every contribution - big or small - brings us a step closer to this goal.

As many of you know, boxing was one of Kay's great passions. These words from Rocky Balboa have stayed with him from the very beginning, even in his coma:
