On April 6, 2022, Deputy Guilin was severely injured in the line of duty while pursuing a felony suspect. Deputy Guilin and his squad were involved in a pursuit with a suspect traveling more than 130 miles per hour. It was determined that the suspect needed to be stopped to safeguard the public. As Deputy Guilin and his squad members attempted to pin the suspect vehicle, the driver tried to take evasive action and crashed in the middle of I-10 at approximately milepost 199.

The driver of the suspect vehicle fled on foot crossing three lanes of interstate traffic. Deputy Guilin gave chase on foot. While pursuing the suspect, Deputy Guilin jumped a Jersey barrier and fell approximately 8 feet unexpectedly. This fall led to Deputy Guilin sustaining a broken right leg and severed tendon in his left knee. Due to the severity of the injuries, Deputy Guilin was airlifted out to a trauma hospital.

The injuries sustained have required at least three surgeries for Deputy Guilin. As a result, he is expected to be out of work for 6 to 8 months while he recovers.

Deputy Guilin has been a Peace Officer in Arizona for approximately 15 years. During this time, he served as a patrol officer, K9 handler, and member of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Gang and Habitual Offender Strike Team (GHOST). He is also a valued member of the Pinal Regional SWAT Team, where he has served as an entry team member, sniper, and currently Sniper Team Leader.

Deputy Guilin is now home recovering with his wife and five children, ages 19, 15, 15, 7 and 3. All funds will go towards any medical expenses and any shortfall in living expenses due to Deputy Guilin being off work.

Deputy Guilin's wife, Stacey, is also a valued member of the Pinal County Sheriff's office. She is a Senior Dispatcher and a valuable asset in keeping our Deputies and community safe. Stacey is now dedicating her time to taking care of Jesse and their family. So not only are the Guilin suffering with the loss of Jesse's income but Stacey's.
