Deputy Chief Richard McAvoy... it's our turn.

SIGNAL ZERO... Those two words you never want to hear or see, but the two words that, in the moment, tend to bring out the best in all of us. The moment is now.
For some time now, retired, Assistant Chief Richard "Buddy" McAvoy has been rather ill. Three weeks ago, Buddy went through a 7.5 hour long operation in a Boston hospital. Due to the complications, Buddy has not been released and is not out of the woods yet. It's not necessary to go into all of the medical details, but suffice to say it is very serious.
It has come to the attention of a few of us that Chief McAvoy's wife, Michelle is staying in Boston and her financial costs have gone way beyond what anyone should have to endure. Her love for "Buddy" is her strength... her faith is her anchor. We need to be there for "Mac", his amazing wife Michelle and their beautiful family.
Speaking for Officer Robert Fitzgerald and myself, two former PBA Presidents are appealing to everyone for their help. A donation, however small, will be a huge step in helping Chief McAvoy meet the challenge before him. He has led all of us to take pride in our "blue blood'. Equally, he has ALWAYS been there for those we protect and serve. He has shaped our careers and our lives. I will forever be thankful for his leadership, his guidance and his friendship.
Please... join us in our cause, our mission. In fact, speaking for my colleagues and myself, I realize that this cause is not only ours. It's a thank you from the hearts of all the lives Buddy has touched, changed for the better and many times... saved. Thank you and in the words of my Chief, "God bless".
