My name is Joseph Vela, and I proudly serve my community as a Sheriff Deputy alongside one of my closest friends and fellow deputies, Jose Calderón. Today, we are asking for help during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Recently, I was diagnosed with Stage 5 Kidney failure. After countless doctor visits, tests, and uncertainty, we received news that changed everything — my friend and fellow deputy was found to be a match and is willing to donate one of his kidneys to save my life.

As law enforcement officers, we have dedicated our careers to protecting and serving others. Now, we find ourselves facing a battle we cannot overcome alone. The transplant surgery and recovery process will require both of us to be out of work for approximately three weeks, while also dealing with mounting medical expenses, travel costs, medications, recovery needs, and everyday bills. Although we are prepared to face this challenge together, the financial burden is overwhelming.

Your support will help cover: medical and transplant-related expenses, recovery and rehabilitation costs, lost wages during recovery, travel and follow-up appointments, and daily living expenses while we are unable to work.
