I am organizing this on behalf of a woman I met through the Boys and Girls Club (@bgca_clubs) through their “Adopt a Family” program. I’ve been able to provide her some job hunting and financial help, but she desperately needs more than I can provide on my own.

Here’s the situation.

Let’s call her “Jane.” Jane is a victim of #domesticviolence. Already a low-income individual, she managed to muster up the courage to leave with her three kids (15, 8, and 3) to go to a domestic violence shelter. She found three low-wage part-time jobs (she didn’t work before she left her abusive relationship). She has been saving for a deposit for an apartment, but every time she gets close to the amount she needs, something happens - like her daughter getting an ear infection and causing a missed day of work, car issues, an extremely painful tooth and a need for a root canal. This is the unfortunate cycle of poverty.

This all sounds bad, but there is good news to share. Jane recently got a full-time job where she will have benefits in 30 days. She also got a commitment from a homeless shelter organization that they will help subsidize her rent for a few months once she gets an apartment.

What she really needs is right now is enough for the deposit for the apartment and a little more to give her a buffer for the unexpected issues life brings. Any donation is going to help!

I’ve met and talked with Jane many times. She’s got a lot of potential and her kids are very sweet. She just needs a helping hand to get her through this difficult period and get her and her kids pointed in a good, safe direction.
