Deonne Jett Memorial bench

I'd like to commemorate the memory of Deonne in a memorial park bench. Any donations are appreciated in this time of grievance.

When I think about Deonne I often think about this place. Our mothers would take us walking under the Douglas fir, western red cedar, and bigleaf maple trees in every season. We would hold out our hands for the chickadees, and hold our breath for every squirrel. Back then, when my brothers were shorter than all of us, Dee and I would tease them so they'd run far ahead screaming and we'd laugh at them. I remember every bloody nose she'd get from the dry air and the slugs that would make us go 'eww' with our sisters. Our favorite trail that we'd walk together as kids was the little river loop. You'd always look for beavers but find ducks. I'd like this bench to be a time capsule where visitors can have a peaceful place in remembrance and reflection of the profound impact mental health struggles can have on individuals, their families, and their friends.

I hope she visits me when I sit there waiting for a gust of wind that sounds like the laughter we shared for twenty years together. Deonne you are missed, but most importantly you are loved.

Deonne always held compassion and empathy for those struggling with mental health issues. Our hope is that we as a community continue her legacy by continuing to foster understanding, offer support, and eliminate any stigma that still exists. Anything further will be going towards other memorial tokens of remembrance and mental health/crisis services.
