Deon Allen Emergency Health Fund

My friend, Deon Allen, needs our help. This March, in the midst of NYC being the US epicenter of the global pandemic as well as protests and demonstrations relating to the tension of social unrest in our country, another nightmare began for Deon. Sewage water and feces (not hyperbole - see photos below) from the apartment above his are dripping into his bathroom and down the sides of his walls into his living space. Deon has a compromised immune system, and these conditions are unfit for any person, let alone someone who travels by bus for his dialysis treatments 4 days a week. For SIX MONTHS he has tried to communicate and have his landlord and building management address the issue. They have put up tarps with duct tape, but have not addressed the root plumbing issue, and he is in danger of contracting an infection which, in his condition, could absolutely be life threatening.

I met Deon when he traveled to our city of Rochester, Minnesota in 2003 to play the Rat King in the Nutcracker. He also taught ballet for our company for years, and is a beloved member of the dance community in Rochester and many other cities. Deon radiates light wherever he goes. He is not one to complain, and we need to help him now. There are few people in the world who deserve our help more than him.

This GoFundMe is to help Deon pay for an inexpensive hotel room for temporary lodging so that he can escape these inhumane conditions, and also to help him hire counsel so that he can start the fight to resolve this issue once and for all. I want him to be able to focus on his health.
