Moving to Denver for My Kidney
Doação protegida
Hi. My name is Veronica Armbruster. I am thirty (30) years old. I have had cerebral palsy since birth and am currently in the process of developing End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
In order to combat this, I am raising money in order to move from my home town of Gainesville, FL to Denver, Colorado in order to increase my chances - and hopefully receive - a kidney transplant. I have had my original kidney transplant since the age of six and I am now in need of a second transplant.
My mother was my first, living donor. Unfortunately, since the rest of my family and friends do not qualify to be a live donor - and it can take up to six years to receive a properly matched cadaver donor - I am kind of stuck. I have a few choices right now:
A. I can move to an area with more hospitals to get a transplant much quicker, which would increase my quality of life and the length of my lifespan by at least another ten (10) to fifteen (15) years.
B. I can go back on dialysis - and maybe live another five (5) to seven (7) years. There are individuals who have lived longer - and those who have passed sooner - on dialysis. However, the treatment is extraordinarily invasive on someone's time and energy. At this point, this is the only other medically available treatment to combat End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). However, the quality of life of a dialysis patient is akin to that of a chemotherapy patient.
C. I can do nothing and allow my condition to kill me.
Hence, the more transplant centers that I am registered as an active patient at, the shorter time I will have to wait for a kidney. If this includes moving to a specific area with more hospitals available, then so be it. I chose the Denver area because the public transportation is higher quality and there are many more hospitals with kidney transplant clinics available within my reach. In Gainesville, there is only one.
Unfortunately, my family and friends do not have to the resources to help me out economically. This is where you can help me out. The money raised will be used for transportation costs, the costs associated with moving, drug costs, helping me get settled until I can find a job, and covering the reoccurring expenses I will have after a transplant until I can head back to work three to six months after the surgery.
I plan on leaving for Denver on 07/31/2016 at the end of my current apartment lease. If the money is there by that time, that would be wonderful. It would really help me out in achieving my goal to live.
Even if you can't give anything monetarily, that's okay. You can help by spreading the word about living organ donation. We need all the help we can get.
