Denver Rides A Bike
Donation protected
On behalf of our dear Denver aka Den Man, we are starting a “GoFundMe” page to help buy him a bicycle through Freedom Concepts Adaptive bikes.
Denver was born at 24 weeks, only weighing two pounds on Christmas Eve 2003. While in the NICU, he suffered two brain bleeds which resulted in him having Cerebral Palsy with Spastic Quadriplegia. At that time we were told he probably would not live past the age of 5 and is now he is 15 years old. Since then, Denver has had a host of botox injection surgeries to his left pectoralis and biceps, bilateral hip adductors, hamstrings, and plantar-flexors to reduce muscle tightness, increasing the ability of a muscle to stretch, and to decrease the likeliness of permanent muscle contracture. When Denver was nine years old, he also endured orthopedic surgery of his bilateral adductor and hamstring tenotomies. His recovery was absolutely painful to watch, however with Denver’s perseverance he made it through. Denver has attended physical therapy and occupational therapy and walks with a Kaye walker but spends most of his time in his electric wheelchair.
Despite Denver’s disability and the challenges he faces daily, he is still full of smiles and has such a contagious laugh. Two of Denver’s favorite hobbies are watching WWE wrestling and playing video games because he feels like there is nothing for him outside to enjoy because of his disability. In fact, he thought he would never be able to ride a bike. We just want him to be able to enjoy some of the simple pleasures in life which are very small pleasures for others and very monumental accomplishment for him.
Recently, Denver’s family has been blessed with an opportunity to provide him with that wish, through Freedom Concepts Adaptive bikes. Their motto is “Giving kids the freedom to be out in the open” and accommodates the needs of individuals with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Angelman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, and visual impairment.
Denver recently was able to test ride a Freedom Concept bike and with tears in our eyes we saw Denver’s dream come true. He will be able to ride a bike! Because this bike will be customized and adjusted to the exact specifications and unique requirements for Denver ensuring that it is a perfect fit, the bike is costly.
Your support is needed to help with the expense of the bike that totals $4,000.00
No amount is too small. Your help is truly appreciated by all of us who love and admire Denver! God Bless you and THANK YOU!
