Anyone involved in greyhound rescue is aware that GRNSW provides participants with a free dental scale before rehoming. After that, it becomes the responsibility of the dog’s owner to maintain good dental hygiene. This may include adding kelp or seaweed supplements to their water, providing dental chews, brushing their teeth, using dental wipes, or arranging home scaling with a professional.
We have recently taken in six private surrenders, all of whom require dental scales and polishes due to significant tartar build-up. We want to send them to their new homes with healthy, pearly white smiles, along with information on how to maintain good dental health as they age.
Dental disease can lead to many serious health issues.
Our adoption fees and donations help keep us going, but the reality is that many of the greyhounds coming into our care are in desperate need of dental treatment. We are also hoping to take in several boys from the same place next week so we can help them find their forever homes too.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help these dogs on their journey.
The situation where these greyhounds have come from is sensitive and truly heartbreaking. All we can say is this: if you fall for cover-ups and “band-aid” rehoming practices, you are not helping their plight.
Thank you for every donation, one tooth at a time
