Dad Shot in Home Invasion
Donation protected
In the early morning on December 5, 2022, my parents' home in Middletown Township, Delaware County PA, was invaded at gunpoint. My dad, a Vietnam veteran who served two tours, did his best to protect my mom but was shot in the face at point-blank range. He spent five days in intensive care with a breathing tube and another four days in the step-down unit. The trauma unit at Crozier Chester Hospital saved his life, and we are forever grateful.
My dad's jaw was reconstructed and his face was stitched up as best as they could, but the damage was extensive. The shot split his tongue, broke one side of his jaw, shattered the other side, and most of his teeth. At 73 years old and just retired after working over 40 years at Boeing, my dad was planning to spend his days relaxing with my mom and me and close friends. Instead, he's now spending his time going to doctors' visits and trying to figure out how to pay for the extensive dental work he needs.
Most of my dad's hospital bills are covered by insurance, but the cost of replacing his teeth will not be covered. He can no longer eat food that he needs to chew without experiencing a lot of pain, and he's left with just a few teeth in the front, all of which are loose. His dream is to get full implants, but the cost is too great. He's now settling for implant-supported dentures. The out-of-pocket cost for replacing his bone and teeth is estimated at $42,000.
This traumatic experience has left our family in shock, and my heart breaks seeing my dad in pain. He did not ask for this, and I'm hoping that the community can come together to support him after everything he's been through. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
