Hi friends — it’s Dr. Joe. If you know me, you know I don’t sit still very well. When I’m not in the office chasing tiny humans around with a toothbrush, I’m usually on a plane headed somewhere to help kids who don’t have access to basic dental care. I joined Healing the Children during my residency at Staten Island University Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. David Hoffman (OMFS). Since then, I’ve been blessed to complete seven mission trips to Colombia, Guatemala, Cape Verde, Kenya, Peru — and now we’re heading to Ecuador this October.
On these trips, we treat thousands of children. We provide cleanings, fillings, extractions, education, and sometimes care that simply isn’t available in their communities. But it’s more than dentistry. It’s connection. It’s love. It’s showing up for kids who deserve the same level of care we fight for every day here at home.
This year, I’m traveling with members of my team — yes, some of the same smiling faces you see in our office. We’re bringing our skills (and probably too many gloves) to serve children and families in Ecuador. Our team leader has already visited the area and confirmed there is a significant need for dental care.
Here’s the honest part: we fund this entire trip ourselves. Flights, supplies, equipment, materials — all of it. No fancy sponsorships. Just big hearts and generous people who believe what we believe: that every child deserves safe, quality dental care.
If you feel called to support us, thank you. Truly. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer — it all matters. We’re not just fixing teeth. We’re building confidence. We’re easing pain. We’re changing lives — one smile at a time. And I promise to bring back stories (and probably a few dad jokes).
With gratitude,
Dr. Joe
