Dental Care for Refugee Adults in Pain
Donation protected
Shabbat Shalom, I am one of the co-chairs of the JRC Refugee and Immigrant Rights Taskforce. We have been helping a family of a dad and two small children who escaped Afghanistan during the U.S. airlifts in August of 2021 (however, mom and baby were left behind in the chaos in the airport). An adult brother and cousin of the father in this family also made it out with them that day. Since they have been here, they have been adjusting to life and school without their family intact. Still, two of the three adults are experiencing severe dental issues. Medicaid does not cover the procedures, and the free services available have long waiting times of weeks, if not months. If you have ever experienced tooth pain, you know that each day can be excruciating, so we are trying to help get attention as soon as possible. We have located a clinic that can perform the root canals and extractions they need, but these things will cost several thousand for each adult. We will use 100% of the funds raised here to cover the out-of-pocket costs for the root canals ($700-$900 each) and extractions ($500-$700 each). We appreciate the generosity that has been extended to this family through our other asks, and we appreciate any financial support you can give at this time to allow them to alleviate this tooth pain.
