My son, Dennis Fowkes Jr, is terminally ill. His prognosis is 12-18 months at best. His illness, Small Duct Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, is a rare occurrence in itself. Dennis had already been diagnosed with Crohns Disease, IBD & IBS, Gastroparesis and Barrett's Esophagus among other things. Things with his health started back at his birth, being born in an emergency C-section where he was in full cardiac arrest and his lungs full of fluid. No one knows what caused it as my pregnancy was perfect and uneventful. After several weeks we brought our boy home. At 5 years he had something happen that pointed to Appendicitis so they operated and removed a perfectly normal appendix. Fast forward 10 years where another "attack" happened. He was rushed into emergency surgery and during the 2nd surgery he came as close to death as ever and his doctors tried to prepare me. 18 months later after being forced to home schooling for that period and loosing so much weight he was a walking skeleton, he improved enough to enter "life" again. They still weren't sure exactly what had happened but it cost him over a third of his colon and several feet of diseased intestine and Crohns disease was suspect but they didn't want to label him, telling us if it was Crohns it would return and boy did it. In 2008 the disease advanced to the point he was permanently medically disabled. It robbed him of every dream for life he had.
Fast forward to June 2018 when his health declined rapidly and viciously. He lost over 100 lbs in 2 months and the pain worsened and changed. He went into the hospital. Tests, blood work and biopsies we're done. What was discovered was his Crohns disease had metasticized into his Pancreas and Liver like a cancer. There is no cure, he is not a surgical candidate and it is terminal. He has an incredible team of doctors at UC Davis and they are doing whay they can which is trying to keep him as comfortable as possible with pain medicines and stints in the hospital when needed.
To complicate things, his wife of 9+ years chose to leave him and end the marriage. The reason(s) are unknown though it was confirmed that she had been unfaithful a few times. Dennis was contacted by a couple of the men because they felt he deserved to know since they were never told she was married. Anyway when she left she took our only means of transportation. We are now at the mercy of Uber and while itsi convenient it's expensive and both Dennis and I are fully permanently disabled, collecting Social Security disability, a very minimal income. He has to have available transportation for his appointments not to mention simple trips to the market for food and prescriptions. So this is all I know to do to help him, us. I'm begging my friends and their friends and so on to hopefully gain enough to buy something that runs for transportation. He has a small Bucket List that consists mostly of dreams but if I do get donations allowing transportation to be acquired there might be one or two i MIGHT be able to do but they certainly aren't priority. Some quality of life while he's still here is priority and I need to have transportation to accomplish any of that. Thank you all for reading this, for watching my attached video, for sharing as much as possible and to any and all that do donate towards my plea. My gratitude is off the charts and I pray wonderful blessings to all of you. In closing, I do have proof of his diagnosis. His doctors, the specialists, Dr. Juan Carlos Garcia and Dr. Christopher Bowlus are who is managing his case. It's so rare and being that UC Davis is a teaching hospital there are multiple residents wanting to do research papers on him. The doctors will watch for trials that he might be available for but mostly just doing what they can until his time comes and he dies. I, as his parent, will bury my child. That in itself is so very wrong and as his Mom, I'm broken. Please please help if you can. Please. Thank you with all my heart thank you.
